Wilderness First Aid (WFA)This 16‐hour (two day) course provides entry‐level training for outdoor enthusiasts who want to prepare themselves and their friends for outdoor trips. SOLO’s Wilderness First Aid course covers topics ranging from preparation and prevention to assessment and treatment of backcountry injuries. All of our instructors have extensive outdoor experience. They have been selected not only for their expertise in emergency medicine and rescue, but also for their teaching abilities. WFA is a two‐year certification that does not include CPR. American Heart Association (AHA) HeartSaver CPR is an optional extra that can be taken on the evening of day one. Taking a WFA class can also re‐certify an expired WFR or AWFA qualification. |

Advanced Wilderness First Aid (AWFA)The Advanced Wilderness First Aid course provides in‐depth information and practical backcountry first aid skills ranging from medical and environmental emergencies to improvising litters and litter carrying techniques. A large emphasis on leadership combined with plenty of hands‐on practice and coaching from our team of experienced leaders make this intensive, four‐day, 32‐hour course a must have for the outdoor enthusiast. AHA HeartSaver CPR is included in this course. |

Wilderness First Responder (WFR)SOLO’s Wilderness First Responder course is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors and students in outdoor recreation programs. The 72‐hour (8 or 9 days) curriculum includes standards for urban and extended‐care situations. WFR offers a comprehensive and in‐depth look at the standards and skills of dealing with:
• Response and assessment Emphasis is placed on leadership, prevention and decision‐making. This course is designed specifically to provide you with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Half of your time will be spent completing practical skills, case studies and scenarios designed to challenge your decision‐making abilities. AHA HeartSaver CPR is included in this course. |

Wilderness First Responder - Costa Rica SOLO Southeast has teamed up with Costa Rican Resource to provide a truly amazing opportunity to train as a Wilderness First Responder in one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. You will follow the standard WFR curriculum over an 8-day period. This class includes a whitewater rafting trip, jungle expeditions and extra-curricular classes on jungle survival, medicinal plant hikes and an overnight camping trip. You will stay in basic accommodations will all food included. Feel free to extend your stay after your class and continue to explore the eco-paradise of Costa Rica! Space is limited and we do require a good level of fitness and proof of all vaccinations required for this region. |

Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT)The EMT course consists of the standard DOT EMT curriculum integrated into an intensive three-week training program. This intensive class includes classroom sessions during the day and practical skills labs in the evening. During weekends, we review clinical skills and you will participate in two five-hour clinicals at a local EMS service, emergency department or walk-in clinic. American Heart Association (AHA) CPR for the healthcare provider is included.
This class gives you all the skills you need to take your state registered EMT exam. Training as an EMT will help prepare you for a future career in Emergency Medical Services, the military or law enforcement, and is recommended for expedition and wilderness guides. We use experienced professionals from the industry to teach our classes and emphasis hands-on skills with a strong understanding of body systems and patient care |

Advanced Wilderness EMT Module Following the success of our Wilderness EMT Module for medical professionals, this 5-day, 40-hour module is for students who want to further their backcountry skills and prepare for disaster releif and medical missions. Taught by SOLO Southeast Director Jono Bryant, this class is based on extensive field experience. Guest speakers include international expedition kayakers and Wold-class mountaineers. Program topics include; working as an expedition medic, tactical medicine, marine bites and stings, dive medicine, desert medicine, tropical medicine, introduction to swift water rescue, plants for wilderness medicine, survival skills for the wilderness medic, ALS in the backcountry, and an 8-hour rescue scenario. This is our benchmark program; exploring new levels of wilderness medicine, expedition skills and backcountry rescue. You must have taken our Wilderness EMT program before applying for AWEMT. |

| EMT-B Refresher
This course fulfills 24-hours of refresher training required by the Department of Transportation national standard. This class is certified by the North Carolina office of EMS, is recognized by the national registry, and acts as a refresher for most states. However, we advise that you check with your home state on current requirements. The hourly breakdown of topics included in the training is listed below.

SOLO Southeast has teamed up with National Ski Patrol to offer an additional module that can be taken with our standard WFR curriculum. Students will qualify as a wilderness first responder and National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care provider. Outdoor Emergency Care is NSP's award winning training program for patrollers and others in the outdoor recreation community who deal with emergency situations. This nationally recognized program is designed to help you manage the toughest emergencies in all seasons. First developed in the late 1980s, Outdoor Emergency Care is a training program that is tailored to the nonurban rescuer. Over the years, OEC has evolved to address the needs of other outdoor-based emergency care providers, including Wilderness Emergency Medical Technicians, river rafting and mountaineering guides, members of search and rescue groups, mountain bike patrollers and parks and recreation employees. Today, OEC is considered the standard of training for emergency care in the outdoors and is recognized by resorts and recreational facilities in all 50 states.

Wilderness Survival Skills (WSS)NOC's SOLO Wilderness Medicine instructors are teaming up to offer Wilderness Survival Classes starting March2011. Whether you're planning to audition for an episode of Survivor or just want to test your wilderness aptitude, these workshops are bound to be an exciting weekend! As with all NOC courses, we'll spend some time in the classroom, but the bulk of our learning will take place in scenarios in the Nantahala National Forest surrounding NOC.
