ACA Swiftwater RescueThe Industry Standard for On-Water ProsSwiftwater Rescue (SWR) at SOLO is a two-day, 16-hr class which teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards. Developed by the American Canoe Association (ACA), this class focuses on prevention and teaches students to execute rescues using a range of techniques. Emphasis is placed on personal safety and all students are encouraged but not required to participate in each individual course module. Skills commonly taught in this class include, self-rescue, strainer avoidance, rescue vest applications, boat entrapments, use of mechanical systems and more. Students have the opportunity to practice SWR skills individually as well as work in groups as a member of a rescue team. The class is designed to improve participants rescue skills as well as facilitate a greater overall level of awareness on the river.
